LONGER DAYS, LIGHTER LAYERS
These are some of my favorite few days of the year - when the temps climb high for the first time, and New Yorkers collectively remember how hot they are 🔥🔥🔥 The short shorts and the sundresses and the tank tops and sandals and pedicures come out to PLAY. The energy in the city shifts completely. The evenings stretch longer, people linger outside instead of rushing straight home, and suddenly everyone is sitting on stoops and carrying giant iced coffees around like the Olsen twins.
You can feel it in the studio too. People staying after class talking just a little longer, windows open, someone showing up already sweaty because they walked over instead of driving. After an unbearably long and cold winter, we're all slowly recalling that we actually like being out in the world.
There’s something really human about wanting to move alongside other people. Running, walking, biking, taking classes, sitting in parks until it gets dark - it all feels a little easier (and a little more fun) with company.
Which is part of why we’re excited to start something new this week at Mott Haven: a Thursday evening Run Club led by Jessy P 👟
Jessy is an avid runner and longtime race participant, and the vibe here is very much community over intimidation. We’ll meet at the studio at 6:30pm, you can drop your stuff, use the bathroom, and then head out together for a neighborhood run. The group will be back around 6:50pm, just in time to grab your things before the next Pilates class rolls in.
One thing about adulthood is that making new friends or trying new things rarely happens accidentally anymore. Most of us aren’t thrown together the way we were in grade school or college. You have to intentionally put yourself in places where connection might happen. Which can feel awkward! But also so wonderful when it works.
See ya on the mat (or on the sidewalk!) 💙
P.S. Pop-up Mama/Mini Strength + Stretch in Mott Haven on June 6th!
P.P.S. There are two spots still open on our Greece retreat this summer
P.P.P.S. Or if you're a goals-oriented productivity queen & feel like learning a new trade instead of lounging on the beach: Pilates Teacher Training!
